Kenai Fjords National Park tour

Get set for awesome sights like this on your Kenai Fjords National Park tour!

There are endless things to see and do on an Alaskan vacation. One attraction that has a LOT of what people come to Alaska for – wilderness, wildlife, glaciers – is Kenai Fjords National Park!

Kenai Fjords National Park is 1,000 square miles of some of the most impenetrable and gorgeous wilderness in Alaska. Kenai Fjords is on the southern coast of the Kenai Peninsula. The park was named for the many fjords that were carved by glaciers sliding down the mountains into the sea.

The park was initially established as a National Monument in 1978, then a National Park in 1980. Its borders encircle the Harding Icefield, one of the world’s largest icefields and the park’s crowning feature. Many come just to see this 936-square-mile icefield and thrill at the sight of a calving glacier. You will too. It’s not everyday you get to see the birth of an iceberg!

Despite the fact that 60 percent of the park is covered in snow and ice, Kenai Fjords National Park offers much more than just ice.

Kenai Fjords National Park is home to a huge variety of wildlife. Both the icy water and a lush fringe of forest provide a rich habitat for the area’s natural inhabitants. Black and brown bears, moose, deer, mountain goats, marmots, and more can often be spotted onshore.

The park contains more than 80 species of birds, as well. Bald eagles, peregrine falcons, black oystercatchers, and both tufted and horned puffins are just a few of the feathered species that can be seen here.

Marine life, too, is all around you when you visit Kenai Fjords National Park. There are no guarantees, but you may see orca, humpback whales, harbor porpoises, sea otters, and sea lions during your cruise! So exciting and beautiful – you brought your camera, right?

Best of all, you’ll visit Kenai Fjords National Park in complete comfort aboard a warm and safe tour vessel. Large picture windows and viewing decks will allow you to inspect the rugged coastline with ease. The experienced crew will happily direct your gaze to calving glaciers, shy wildlife, and other fascinating details often overlooked by the untrained eye.
