Off The Beaten Path Alaskan Wilderness Tours

June 30th, 2016 by Corey A. Edwards

airboat tour of Knik Glacier - Alaskan wilderness toursDiscover the less-trodden Alaska with on one of Alaska Adventure Unlimited’s off-the-beaten-path Alaskan wilderness tours! We’ll take you where the others don’t!

There is a lot to see and do in Alaska and plenty of companies offering to get you out into the great Alaskan wilderness. Few, however, go much beyond the more typical Alaskan attractions. Alaska Adventure Unlimited will take you to these, too but with less common destinations included as part of your itinerary.

What do we mean when we say our Alaskan wilderness tours will take you off the beaten path?

Take our 10-day Full Circle of Alaska Tour, for example.

This is the ultimate tour of Alaska. It’s so big, so extensive, we only offer it once a year. You’ll see glaciers, rivers and wildlife like stellar seals, salmon runs, eagles, and bears. You’ll visit both Denali National Park and Wrangell St. Elias National Park, as well as raft down the Matanuska River and land on a Mt. Denali glacier. This is one of the only tours out there that will take you through Kennicott, McCarthy, Valdez, and show you the Alyeska Oil Pipeline.

Of course, our Full Circle of Alaska Tour is only available once a year. Which of our other Alaskan wilderness tours offer uncommon destinations or attractions? All of them!

As you can see on our tour comparison page, each of our guided tours include up to four uncommon attractions:

Knik River Airboat Adventure
This exciting diversion will put you on Lake George, at the base of Knik Glacier, in an airboat! Knik Glacier is a 28 mile long, 6 mile wide glacier that is over 1000 feet thick and one of Alaska’s grandest natural attractions.

Matanuska Glacier Trek
Get up close and personal with an glacier on our Matanuska glacier trek. Discover the true beauty of glaciers with a walk out to a scenic lake hidden under the face of an ice fall. We’ll provide the guidance, walking sticks, and ice “cramp-ons” – stretchy rubber overshoes that help to keep you upright in the slick ice of the glacier.

River Rafting the Matanuska River
2-rafting-fun2Many of our Alaskan wilderness tours offer two different rafting opportunities: Matanuska River whitewater rafting or scenic float.

The Lion’s Head whitewater rafting excursion is a thrilling raft trip that is perfect for first-timers yet popular with experienced rafters as well. A 3 ½ hour, class 3-4 whitewater experience, we’ll outfit you in full dry suits and shoes to keep you dry and happy.

Not into the whitewater experience? No problem! We also offer the calmer Glacier Run, a scenic, 2 ½ hour float trip that is perfect for those more interested in sightseeing and photo opportunities.

Gold Panning at Independence Gold Mine
Learn the history of Independence Gold Mine in Hatcher’s Pass, built in the early 1900’s. After the tour you can enjoy a hike, take photos of the scenic mountain views, or pan for gold!

This is the real thing, the river you’ll be panning in has not been salted. What “color” you find in your pan is here naturally and yours to keep. Exciting!
